When to Replace Your RV Utilities

When to Replace Your RV Utilities

October 28th, 2019

You want your RV to be in the best possible shape, so you have no troubles out on the road. Unfortunately, like with all vehicles, repairs and replacements are unavoidable. Knowing when to replace your RV utilities can help you be prepared and save you a lot of stress and hassle on your next adventure.

Water Systems

The various water tanks in your RV are some of the most important components—especially if you’re going completely off the grid. That’s why it’s important to check your water systems before every trip and keep an eye out for any signs of trouble. A water pump that’s nearing the end of its lifespan often gives a few warning signs, such as leaks, abnormal noises, or a failure to start. Remember to check out pipes and electrical connections as well to make sure these issues aren’t a sign of an entirely different problem.

Awning

From providing shade to extending your living space, your RV’s awning does a lot for you. That’s why, if the awning is damaged by severe weather or just starting to wear thin from use, you don’t want to wait too long to replace it. It might be tempting to just put up with tears and leaks for a little while, but replacing your RV canopy is a great opportunity to upgrade your rig and keep your vacation space enjoyable.

AC Unit

Temperature control is one of the best parts of vacationing in an RV, so when your living area is too hot or too cold, you definitely want to get it fixed as quickly as possible. If your air conditioning unit is running but not producing cold air, first take a look at your vent filters and the thermostat. It could be that the problem lies with either of these rather than the AC itself.

Furnace

A working furnace is vital for trips to colder climates. One of the best indicators that it’s time to get a new furnace is if you’re getting cold air instead of warm. Other warning signs can be loud or abnormal noises, excess dust or soot in your RV’s interior, or rust around the furnace. You can also keep an eye on the pilot light. If it isn’t blue, that’s a sign that something is wrong.
