How to Make Your RV More Eco-Friendly

How to Make Your RV More Eco-Friendly

February 5th, 2020

More and more people are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious and incorporating eco-friendly alternatives to various aspects of their lives. RVs are no exception to this trend. Despite their size and fuel usage, there are several ways to go green in an RV. From vehicle upgrades to simple lifestyle tricks, here’s how to make your RV more eco-friendly during your time on the road.

Sustainable Living

Some environmentally friendly lifestyle tips can help you no matter where you are or how you travel. Make the famous pillars of reduce, reuse, and recycle standard for every RV trip. Minimize your trash while on the road by using reusable products like water bottles, cloth napkins, and real dishes. Try to buy your RV furniture or decorations secondhand and keep an eye out for products made from recycled or renewable materials.

Natural Temperature Control

While it doesn’t take as much power to heat or cool a smaller space, RVs can still take up ample energy. Fortunately, there are several tricks to help regulate your RV’s internal temperature and cut down on energy usage. In the summer, park in the shade to help keep your RV cool. You can also install RV roller shades on your windows to help block the sun and prevent the interior from overheating. When traveling in the winter, invest in an RV skirt, insulation, and other measures that can help hold heat within your vehicle.

Green Alternatives

If you want to learn how to make your RV more eco-friendly, take a look at some of the additions and upgrades you can install. Fixed or portable solar panels can replace a noisy generator as a power source. Consider swapping old appliances out for newer, energy-efficient models. Even simple alternatives like LED light bulbs or filtered water pitchers can help reduce energy costs and make your RV better for the environment.
